The non-profit partnership Transport Union of the North-West brings together companies and organisations of the transport sector across eleven regions of the North-Western Federal District: rail and road carriers, sea and river ports, airlines, infrastructure operators, freight forwarders, design bureaus and specialist universities.
Why the Union exists
The transport sector of the North-West is arranged in such a way that almost any significant problem touches several modes of transport and several regions at once. Individual companies do not solve problems of that kind: each has its own horizon and its own circle of contacts in government. The Union assembles a common position and brings it to the people who take the decisions.
What we do
- We represent the sector before national and local authorities, in specialist committees and working groups.
- We provide expert review of draft regulations, regional programmes and infrastructure decisions.
- We convene the industry — conferences, round tables and meetings on individual areas, where the sector agrees on a single position.
- We connect industry and universities, helping to shape training programmes around what companies actually need.
- We keep members informed — from changes in legislation to the practical application of new requirements.
How the Union is governed
The general meeting of members is the supreme body. Between meetings the work is led by the presidium headed by the president of the Union. Day-to-day business is handled by the executive office. Each area of work is coordinated by a specialist head drawn from among the members.
History
The Union was founded in 1999. In 2011 a new charter was drawn up and filed with the Ministry of Justice, and in 2012 the organisation was re-registered in its present legal form — the non-profit partnership Transport Union of the North-West.
