The general meeting of the Transport Union of the North-West, held on the banks of the Neva with the participation of company directors, their business partners, researchers from sectoral institutes and representatives of the Marine Council under the city government, broadly approved the strategy for developing the transport sector of Saint Petersburg and the constituent regions to 2030.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The report of the Union\u2019s president, Vladimir Khodyrev, named the specific measures aimed at improving the work of the waterborne, rail and road sectors. These include a new concept for managing maritime activity, and strategies for sea and river transport and for regional and local air services in the North-Western Federal District. The Union plans to take an active part in drafting federal, regional and city legislation, for example on customs and tax rules. In Khodyrev\u2019s view, an important part in improving the whole system of carriage, in designing optimal logistics schemes and in organising cooperation between operators on the basis of interlocking timetables should be played by developing the Union\u2019s network of representative offices and branches across the North-West. Better coordination matters all the more given that three international transport corridors pass through the region and that it contains many border crossings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The president reported that, by agreement with the heads of the relevant city committees, major transport infrastructure projects will be reviewed with the Union\u2019s experts and representatives of civic organisations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
